Our Changing Earth: Why Climate Change Matters to Young People (Published 2019)

“Widespread scientific consensus exists that the world’s climate is changing. Some of these changes will likely include more variable weather, heat waves, heavy precipitation events, flooding, droughts, more intense storms, sea level rise, and air pollution. Each of these impacts could negatively affect public health.”
       – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Both the health-related and Earth-related implications of climate change are investigated in Our Changing Earth: Why Climate Change Matters to Young People by Arjun Marwaha. This book primarily aims to enlighten the youth about the changing Earth that we will inherit in a few years.

OUR EARTH IS CHANGING

As human civilization progresses, the Earth will rapidly head toward an uncontrollable fate: global warming. Among the plethora of issues that climate change implies, rising temperatures merely scratch the surface. Submergence of existing land and frequent extreme events are also catastrophic predictions of this phenomenon in a few decades. This not only threatens planetary Earth, but also impacts the biodiversity found on our majestic home. Direct implications on human health are also severe consequences of a changing climate. Infectious diseases are expected to expand due to hotter, wetter climates. With this in mind, the youth of today is poised to tackle the greatest challenge ever known to mankind: climate change.
WHY CLIMATE CHANGE MATTERS TO YOUTH

A future where the young generation will take on the mantles of our world is closer than one may imagine. Very soon, the children of today will inherit the Earth that has historically been disregarded and mistreated. We must fight to preserve any pristine conditions that may remain on our planet today. We must do it for our children and grandchildren, who deserve to walk in the same conditions as we do. And so, let small steps be the stepping stones for real change in our society. Let us make a difference before it is too late.
